About Me

My path was never very clear to me. It still is not. However, I was always interested in technology. When I was younger, I wanted to get into the medical field. Though, admittedly, it was primarily to please my parents. In 2007, I started my own website, which was hosted on Freewebs.com, which is now simple webs.com. Of course, at the time, I experience in HTML and JavaScript was very basic. Perhaps the most "complex" script I had written was a series of alert boxes... The website is no longer up, and the url now belongs to someone else. They disappoint me.

At that time, I also got interested in computer arts and graphic design. Because Photoshop was so expensive, and I was ten, I used a free program called GIMP. The work I remember the most is my website's mascot: the purple coconut monkey. Unfortunately, it was also lost. The purple coconut monkey was simply an recolored edit of a monkey clip art form Google Images with a coconut for a head. At one point, I gave it a space helmet and changed my website's theme to outer space. Hopefully, I can one day revive the purple coconut monkey.

I didn't get any real experience in the things I was interested in until high school; however in my first couple years, the courses I took are only somewhat relevant to my interest. As a freshman, I took an animation class using a program called Alice. What's unique about this software is that although the result is an animation, the structure is much more similar to programming. I also took a 3D Rendering class that year, which uses Google SketchUp. During the second semester, I was also enrolled in a personal finance class, in which I received experience in financial management and entrepreneurship. Part of the class involves participating in a company, where the students ran a shirt-selling company. At the end of the year, I found out that I sold more shirts than anyone else in the class. In the same year, I joined the Art and Archeology of Me Project as a cohort at Discovery World. Along with learning about the city and my family's personal history, I received some experience in Photoshop, while creating a Personal Archeology Banner.

My second year in high school was the year that I consider the official start of my... It was when I thought I knew what I truly wanted to be. Although I was not enrolled in a graphics design or computer arts class, I did continue working with graphic design and media development. That year, I was introduced to the FIRST  Robotics Competition, and has been a part of it ever since. I mean, it is awesome and I have only been in it for two years. As part of Team 1675 (The Ultimate Protection Squad), I focused mainly on media and outreach at the time. My main focus was maintaining the teams, while I also worked with graphic design and video editing. Through Team 1675, I gained experience in Photoshop, iMovie, Garageband, and HTML. That was just my first year on the team.

Sophomore year was was also the year I joined a special group as part of the "Tech Tern" project. This is a unique partnership between Bradley Tech, Froedtert Hospital, Cannon Design, and Mortensen Construction. Only twenty-five of Bradley Tech's top then-sophomores were chosen to be a part of it, and I am proud to hold the title of a Tech-Tern. Initially planned to meet twice a year, this group goes on field trips to the construction site of Froedtert Hospital to learn about the construction process of a brand new building. We were given the opportunity to observe the construction of a new edition to the hospital from the very beginning (aside from the planning) all the way until its completion, if everything goes well.

Junior year was was a big year for me. Aside from the ACT, which I had to take the year before due to an error in the district's system, SAT, and AP exams, I also had college and my career to worry about. Of course, I came back to FIRST Robotics, but this year, I focused more on programming the actual robot. I learned quite a bit of Java, I was able to catch on pretty quickly. This was also the first year I was enrolled in an actual class related to my interests. I took a Computer Arts and Image Technology course throughout the year, which I really enjoyed, and was enrolled in a Web Design class during the second semester, despite it being a full-year course. The class was very convenient for me, as the focus was on JavaScript, which shares many similarities with Java.

My attendance was somewhat low this year, because of the various field trips I participated in. I also missed approximately twenty percent of my tenth hour classes, due to being a member of the Violence-Free Zone Leadership group. However, trips, such as college visits to Lakeshore Technical College, Milwaukee Area Technical College, and the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, a STEM Showcase at Direct Supply, and a job shadow at Marcus Hotels & Resorts IT Department, and my continued participation in the Tech Tern project counted for the majority of my absences.
